Mystery Writings

Each Merriman Institute Mystery juxtaposes an unsolved murder commited in the past with the threats endangering the present as the murder is uncovered. The present revolves around the Merriman Institute and its cast of characters and fellows in Boston’s Back Bay. The past is always some pivotal, colorful and exciting place and time, such as Harvard Square during the riots of 1970; Rio de Janeiro in the Fifties, and Marblehead in 1824 when the Marquis de

Lafayette visited with his mistress.

The Merrimans are wealthy Boston Brahmins. Three generations of Merrimans detect patterns in data and information that reveal human behavior. In all books, Colby Merriman is the virtuoso detective running the Institute. His sons, daughter and son’s steady girlfriend play principal investigators in different books, narrating each case.

The Merriman Institute and the Merriman family work from the family’s grand brownstone with its stone steps and walnut paneling at 271 Commonwealth Avenue and from their boathouse cantilevered over the Atlantic Ocean up in Marblehead, Massachusetts. #271 is a five-story Greek revival that served as the family manse until Colby Merriman converted it into the nonprofit Merriman Institute with its Dialogue Studio and Evidence Lab.

 TESTIMONIALS FOR RAZOR BLADE

I really, really enjoyed the book and found it thrilling, a really engrossing read. I feel like I know something of Rio (never been to Brazil) and like I was there in the ‘50’s (born 1987). I want more Merriman Mysteries!

This is a unique, intriguing concept, and the story is impressive in its scope. Jacobsen has a knack for vivid imagery as well.
